Mclaren F1 LM
Fall 2007 | Personal 3D Project
-
This is one of my all-time favorite cars, the Mclaren F1 LM. Only 5 of these cars where ever assembled. I decided to tackle the project of creating this auto as a 3d model once I had learned enough about 3d. The traditional color of these is Papaya Orange in memory of Bruce Mclaren, however I love black :D -
The bulk of the 3d modeling was done in Autodesk's Maya with some smaller pieces like headlights and grills being modeled in Luxology's Modo for it's exquisite subdivision surface modeling techniques. -
I meticulously modeled this auto to exacting Mclaren blueprint specifications and measurements. Much research and photo gathering was done prior to beginning the model wireframe. The final total polygon count of all objects was upwards of 26 million - making it only possible to work on small sections at a time. -

At first I used red paint for it's high brightness to test the render settings, object reflections, and lighting refractions for optimal global lighting conditions. Mmm soft and realistic shadowing :)
